Parcels, Inc., began operations as a downtown Wilmington, Delaware, delivery service with just a few clients. Delaware Document Retrieval, Inc., (DDR) was formed soon thereafter, and the symmetry between the two divisions, one delivering legal documents and the other researching and retrieving them from the courts, increased the efficiency and effectiveness of both.

The small staff focused on being the best - immediate responsiveness, 100% accuracy, speed, and flexibility according to the client's needs - and, little by little, the company gained the respect of major law firms in Wilmington and throughout the state. Law firms began to entrust more of those "non-legal" functions in their organizations to a company that could do it more efficiently and with fewer headaches for their administrators and staff.

The Courier and Document Retrieval services grew rapidly during the 1980s in the ever-expanding Delaware legal landscape. Offices were established in Dover and Philadelphia in response to clients' requirements for faster, more efficient services there. Parcels' staff grew proportionately and developed into a strong team of bright, reliable and dedicated young people, competent in each of the various courts and government offices, and able to do perform a variety of functions in each of the three locations. Cross training became the standard for Parcels, providing deep staff for full coverage while making the job more diverse and interesting for the staff.

It wasn't always smooth sailing for the company, but Parcels survived. The 1997 fire that destroyed the Delaware Trust Building where operations were located, could easily have destroyed the company with it. But sheer determination, gutsy management, and 200% effort on the part of each and every employee won out in the face of incredible odds: even immediately following the fire, the Parcels management and staff still felt their priority was to their client, and acted accordingly.

Parcels always relied on available technology (cell phones, pagers, high speed copiers and fax machines) to increase efficiency in performance. And, with thoughtful anticipation of the electronic innovations that would undoubtedly affect the legal world in the coming years, the Virtual Docket division was launched in 1998. A natural extension of DDR, and taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of its research staff, the VirtualDocket.com Web site makes Delaware Court docket sheets and documents available online. The investment in state-of-the-art scanners and high-end software, as well as in-house technical expertise, makes possible a host of electronic scanning and other e-services to our clients.

The Facilities Management division, the newest venture, exploits the expertise of the staff developed in the other divisions - courier, copying and binding, mailing and general services - and maximizes its benefits at off-site law firms.

Today, Parcels' clients include most of the law firms in the state. Many firms have been able to down-size their internal peripheral services because Parcels' services have proven to be dependable and cost effective. (In fact, we are an integral part of many firm's disaster recovery programs.)

Parcels, a local company employing over 115 people, is dedicated to providing excellent services to its clients by maintaining a staff that is intelligent, vibrant and dependable.
